Around the ACT, boarding is at a premium around the Christmas/New Year period. This is for a couple of reasons. Many people who live in Canberra are from other cities and States, and so they like to return home to family. Also, December is the time when members of our Australian Defences Forces are posted to their new locations. That includes Duntroon, those at HMAS Harman, the Government Offices and now the new headquarters just outside of Bungendore. The houses that they are to move into are not ready until later in January, so the families go into accomodation where they cannot have their pets. On top of this is the usual school holidays. This can make finding a place for your pet difficult, and it can only get worse. New houses and suburbs are going up, especially on the North side, close to us, but there are the same number of kennels. In previous years, our bookings have closed in mid to late September, this year it was early August. We do give first refusal to our regular clients, and there are also places reserved for military postings each year. We do not charge any more for boarding over this time, however, we don't give the multi pet discount.
